Go to the Tapes to Enhance Ski Performance

(continued) <BACK> I thought with dedication, determination and discipline I could achieve his level in a short time. I was wrong. When I started Inflex 13 months ago, I sounded like a bowl of Rice Krispies as I moved through the half-hour program. "Flexibility is only a byproduct of the Inflex Program," Crook said. "Once you train your body to move properly, with a full range of motion, your flexibility will increase. Successful skiing comes from proper weight distribution and the ability to exploit leverage." Here I am, one year later, and, although not at Crook's level, my back pain and spasms are history and my flexibility has increased dramatically. In skiing, my balance has improved greatly and my turns are more dynamic. Ironically, the only work I had done was from the Inflex I videotape Crook sent me the week after we met. Even though we spoke on the phone on a regular basis, I had never worked with Crook in person. My sessions consisted of the half-hour tape I would follow each morning, five to six times a week over the past 13 months. The Inflex I program comes as a two-tape series and sells for $39.95.
Tape 1, the instruction tape, breaks down each exercise for proper technique
and a comprehensive understanding. "Treat each exercise as a massage, i.e., breathe in and out thorough the nose and allow the body to move in full motion," Crook said. "Never strain or overdo any exercise. Patience is the key." In the four years PSIA has been working with Crook, many Demo Team members have completely revised their training methods. Herb Davis, head coach and member of the Nordic team, says, "Inflex has increased the overall flexibility in my ankles and hips. This leads to a greater awareness of my body position and makes it easier to balance more effectively on my skis." "In skiing, your transition occurs when going from one turn to the next. This is where you make your edge change and potentially where posture breaks down,"Crook said. "If your balance, movement or posture are weak, you set yourself up for injury."
