Denver Post Rates Silver Creek one of the Best Ski Areas for Families

Granby, Colo. Silver Creek, now SolVista Golf & Ski Ranch, was rated as one of the best ski areas for families by the Denver Post.

"At Silver Creek, the terrain is gentle, the slopes aren’t crowded and it’s impossible to get lost, because all the trails on the west and east mountains lead back to the common base area. Silver Creek also has lots of fun activities for kids." John Meyer, The Best of Colorado Skiing, Denver Post, 11/19/00.

SolVista was designed with families in mind. Its 287 acres of skiable terrain consists of 30 percent beginner, 50 percent intermediate and 20 percent advanced runs. Lifts for all runs radiate from a central base lodge making it easy for families to ski together, and for parents to keep track of their kids. The entire East Mountain offers beginner and intermediate terrain and connects at the base to the West Mountain, where advanced skiers and boarders find more challenging runs. Bear Bahn Park is a separate area designed specifically for beginners and includes a separate surface lift.

Night skiing is another family favorite. SolVista has the second largest night skiing operation in Colorado. Families enjoy skiing three runs and the terrain park lit top-to-bottom. While kids ski under the stars, adults may enjoy warm drinks or cocktails in front of the fire in the lounge at the base lodge.

Beginners don’t stay that way for long at SolVista. World-renowned ski instructor and author, Harald Harb, and his teaching partner, Diana Rogers, help run the Accelerated Learning Center where non-skiers learn to ski parallel on their first run. As the exclusive Colorado licensee of the proven Accelerated Skier Performance Systemtm, SolVista is able to move beginning skiers to parallel, bypassing the snowplow and wedge phases found in traditional teaching systems. For an even greater challenge, skiers and boarders can catch the daily free shuttle to Berthoud Pass ski area.

SolVista has many other options for enjoying the Colorado winter wonderland. Other amenities within or near the area include a tubing hill, ice-skating, natural hot springs pools in nearby Hot Sulphur Springs, hot air balloon rides, ice fishing, snowmobiling, bowling, dog sled and sleigh rides, arcades, and pools and hot tubs. SolVista is known as the first Colorado ski area to bring bikes to the mountain. Snowbiking has become a popular alternative to the downhill experience.

SolVista is located 79 miles northwest of Denver on U.S. Highway 40. For more information on ski programs please see www.discoversilvercreek.com or call 888-283-7458.
