Line of Business Berthoud Pass ski area is Colorado’s oldest ski area and home to some of the most extreme ski and snowboard terrain in Colorado. There is also a retail shop, demo center, pub, restaurant and cafeteria in the base lodge.

Location From Denver, 50 miles west on I-70 to exit 232. Continue on Highway 40 to the top of Berthoud Pass.

Ownership Silver Creek Holding Co., Inc. owns Silver Creek Golf & Ski Ranch, Berthoud Pass ski area, Black Dog Mountaineering, Silver Creek Marina at Grand Lake, Silver Creek Rafting, and 5,500 acres of adjoining land.

Transportation Berthoud Pass ski area is accessible by car or bus. All major airlines service Denver International Airport (DIA).

Rental cars are available locally or in Denver.

Home James Transportation provides regular ground transportation services from DIA to Berthoud. Call 888.283.7458 for reservations.

Amtrak provides daily service to Granby and Winter Park/Fraser from the Midwest and West Coast. Call 800.USA.RAIL.

"The Lift" is the free local shuttle that runs to and from most lodging properties and activities in the valley.

Silver Creek Golf & Ski Ranch offers a shuttle to and from Silver Creek, Winter Park and Berthoud Pass each morning and afternoon.

The Mountains Berthoud Pass ski area consists of two separate mountains divided by U.S. Highway 40. Both mountains offer beginner through expert level terrain and are serviced by lifts and four backcountry pick-up points where shuttle buses transport skiers and riders back to the lifts.

Lifts Two lifts -- one quad, one triple. Berthoud also operates shuttle buses that pick up skiers and riders at four backcountry pick-up points on the mountain and transport them back to the base area.

Snowmaking None necessary.

Unique Features Berthoud Pass ski area is Colorado’s oldest ski area, having first opened its doors in 1937. However, before any official opening, Berthoud Pass has been a favorite backcountry place to ski since the late 1800’s.

Ticket price is based on the amount of fresh snow that Berthoud Pass receives each day. With every four inches or more, the ticket price is $34. The day after a four-inches or more storm, the ticket price drops to $32, the day after that, the ticket price drops to $30, unless it snows four inches or more.

Skier Visits After a five-year closure, Berthoud Pass ski area reopened for the 1997/98 season and posted 10,735 skier visits. The 1998/99 season brought an 87.24 percent increase over the previous season with 20,101 skier visits. Berthoud had 16,870 skier visits in 1999/2000.

Base Area At the crest of U.S. Highway 40 sits the base lodge and parking lot for Berthoud

Facilities Pass ski area. The base lodge houses a retail shop, demo center, cafeteria, pub, restrooms, ski patrol, Powder Guides, Harald Harb alignment center and administrative offices. Mines Peak Lift begins just to the south of the base lodge and the Divide Lift begins across U.S. Highway 40 and to the northwest of the base lodge.

The Towns Silver Creek is located two miles south of Granby and 15 miles north of Winter Park. Both towns are known for their multitude of outdoor activities. Granby is a full-service mountain community with a strong ranching heritage. Services include a variety of restaurants and bars, banks, convenience stores, medical services, automotive services, grocery store, florists, and shopping.

The Winter Park/Fraser area offers many of the same conveniences, with added restaurants and bars, shopping and a movie theatre.

Other Activities Amenities near Berthoud Pass include natural hot springs pools in nearby Hot Sulphur Springs, a bowling alley in Grand Lake, snowshoeing, health clubs, dog sled rides, sleigh rides, arcades, ice fishing, ice-skating, snowmobiling, pools, hot tubs, tubing, and hot air balloon rides.
