BERTHOUD PASS, Colo. Berthoud Pass ski area on top of U.S. Highway 40, just 50 miles from Denver, is where you’ll find some of Colorado’s most pristine backcountry. Colorado’s first ski area, Berthoud Pass opened in 1937. From the BadAssÔ Series to Berthoud’s new avalanche awareness programs, the area continues to be on the cutting-edge of winter sports.

January 6 Women’s Snowboard Camp #1. Learn to rip with the chicks and leave those boys behind. Camp consists of 3 hours of riding with cool women, tips on getting in shape for riding, and analysis of individual riding style instructed by 13-year veteran, Teri Scanlon. Six women limit per camp.

January 8-13 Berthoud Parties. Select restaurants in Summit County and Denver will hold appreciation parties

with specials, giveaways and pre-registration for the BadAss Series.

January 27 Berthoud Pass BadAss Series™ 1. The popular series continues for another year of freeriding events for skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers. Sign up for the series or individual events to include exciting competitions, music and prizes. Top winners in the series will receive an automatic bye to compete in the BadAss 2001 Championships, which is a qualifying event for the North American Free Skiing World Tour. March 3 Berthoud Pass Mountain Bike Snow Race. Competitors will race down the Bonanza Trail through gates, bumps and burms. Prizes to the top male & female finishers in the amateur and professional categories. Limited edition T-shirts for the first 50 entrants. Register on-line at www.Active.com.

March 9-11 PMTS™ All-Mountain Camp #1. Learn to ski the entire mountain, whatever the conditions - bumps, powder, steeps. This three-day camp includes 6 hours of instruction per day, on-snow alignment assessment, and video analysis. The choice of terrain will depend on weather and snow conditions, but should include moguls, steeps, and powder. Skiers must be comfortable on intermediate/advanced terrain to attend. Maximum 6 per group, with personal instruction by Harald Harb and Diana Rogers.

March 28 - BadAss 2001 & Jr National Freeride Championships. Top skiers, snowboarders and

April 1 telemarkers in the Berthoud BadAss Series™ along with World Cup athletes will compete to qualify for the North American Free Skiing World Tour, cash and prizes. This four-day premier event will challenge the best freeriders in progressively more difficult venues sanctioned by the International Free Skiing Association. New this year is the non-sanctioned Junior division. All Jr.’s, ages 15 and under, are eligible to show their stuff for great prizes during the weekend finale.

April 7 Berthoud Pass Terrorain Park Challenge™. Skiers and snowboarders compete for prizes in a slope-style event held in Sean’s Sandbox. Register on-line at www.Active.com

April 17-20 PMTS™ Junior Race Camp. A camp for junior racers or aggressive skiers who want to work on technique including racing. For ages 9-15. Five full days of instruction and supervision. Includes skiing drills, practice courses, video analysis, and timed runs. Skiers must be comfortable on advanced terrain, but previous race experience not required.
